This is called the Law of Segregation. Mendel also found that each pair of alleles segregates independently of the other pairs of alleles during gamete formation.

This is known as the Law of Independent Assortment. ... Genes for different traits can segregate independently during the formation of gametes.

Law of segregation states that the factors or alleles of a pair of segregate from each other during gamete formation , in a way that a gamete receives only one of the two factors . They do not show any blending or mixing . It is also known as law of purity of gametes .

Law of independent assortment is based on inheritance of two genes . the genes randomly rearrange in the offrings producing both parental and new combination of characters . therefore , the inheritance of one characters do not affect the other characters and both the characters assort independently .
