Every month uterus prepares to receive the fertilised egg....if fertilization does not occur,the lining of the uterus breaks and goes out through vagina as blood and mucous....this cycle takes place roughly every month ...this is called menstrual cycle...

Hey There.....!!

Uterus lining thickens and get richly supplied with blood vessels, this is a kinda preparation to receive the embryo. But when fertilisation fails to occur this uterus lining sheds and blood comes out from vagina in females. Menstrual Phase lasts for about 3 to 5 days during which blood is discharged.
