The menstrual phase: The menstrual phase involves the shed of the thick endometrial lining of the uterus along with release of the egg from the vagina along with the release of the blood, tissues and mucus from the uterus.  

This phase is associated with muscular cramps and pain.

The follicular phase: It initiates with the first day of the mensturational cycle and ends with the ovulation. In this stage 5-20 immature eggs or follicles get matured. Only the healthiest egg will get matured and the rests will reabsorbed in the blood.

The ovulation phase: The matured egg enters from the ovary to the fallopian tube this egg can be fertilized by the sperm and this phase is the only phase when the chances of pregnancy are the greatest.

The follicle phase: When the follicle releases it's egg the rise in hormone levels the estrogen and progesterone causes the uterus lining to become thick again to as to support fetal implant if fertilization of egg occurs.
