2 intercalary meristem--it is present at the nodes

3 lateral meristem--it is present in the stem and it is responsible for growth in terms of increasing the girth (circumference)

New cells generated by meristem look like meristem itself these cells have dense cytoplasm, thin cell wall and prominent nucleus (well defined nucleus), with no vacuole.
