Merits of Whittaker’s classification:


1. Prokaryotes are given separate place in Whittaker’s classification. It is justified as they are different from other living organisms in structure, biochemical and reproduction process.


2. Unicellular and multicellular organisms are kept in separate


3. The mode of nutrition of fungi is different other plants and hence they are kept in separate kingdom.


4. This classification is more natural than 2 classification kingdom.



Demerits of Whittaker’s classification:


1. Unicellular and multicellular algae are kept in different kingdoms, but similar organisms must be kept together.


2. Dissimilar organisms must be kept separately, but there is diversity in Protista.


3. There is no place for viruses.
