Mitochondria are membrane- bound cell organelles ( mitochondrian, singular) that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power the cells ,s biochemical reactions. Chemical energy produced by the mitochondria is stored in a small molecule called adenosine triphosphate(ATP) .
