Modern methods of refrigeration are as follows:
1. Vapour compression cycle; The vapours of refrigerant are compressed in the compressor of the refrigerator system to develop the cooling effect.
2. Vapour absorption cycle; In this ammonia is used as the refrigerant , which has a very high affinity to dissolve water.
3. Gas cycle; In this system gas is used as refrigerant, throughout the process there is no phase changes for gas, which are observed as liquid refrigerant.
ADVANTAGE: They provide really fast cooling.
DISADVANTAGES: Liquid nitrogen causes severe damages.
