There are two modes of nutrition in living organisms:

  1. Autotrophic mode of nutrition : The mode of nutrition in which organisms synthesise their own food using simple substances is called autotrophic mode of nutrition and the organisms that exhibit this kind of nutrition are called Autotrophs. Autotrophs are also called producers as they produce food.Examples of Autotrophs are green plants.

2.Heterotrophic mode of nutrition : The organisms that cannot prepare their own food and depend on other organisms for nutrition are called heterotrophs and this mode of nutrition is called heterotrophic mode of nutrition. Examples of heterotrophs are Monotropa ,Cuscuta, human beings etc.
