Moment of inertia is the property of a body due to which it opposes any change in its state of rest or uniform rotation. M.I. plays the same role in rotational motion as mass plays in linear motion. M.I. of a particle I = mr2, where r is the perpendicular distance of particle from rotational axis. Dimension of M.I. is ML2T0. Its S.I. unit is kg.m2.

Moment of inertia➫ A measure of a body's resistance to angular acceleration, equal to the product of the mass of the body & the square of its distance from the axis of rotation.

Examples:-
===========⤵

The moment of inertia of a compound pendulum constructed from a thin disc mounted at the end of a thin rod that oscillates around a pivot at the other end of the rod, begins with the calculation of the moment of inertia of the thin rod and thin disc about their respective centers of mass.

❱ It is also called angular mass.

❱ It is a rotating body's resistance to angular acceleration or deceleration.

❱ It's SI unit is kg m^2.

❱ The mass of a body is roughly a measure of its inertia or resistance to a change in its state of motion.

❱ It is the perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation to a point mass.
