Motion of any object can be understood only by observing it from a certain frame of reference, so it is relative to the frame of reference,i.e., the same motion might seem different for different observers. For example, there is a man in a moving car and a man standing on the road. The car is moving, with respect to the man standing on the road, whereas the car is at rest with respect to the man sitting inside it. Thus, we can say that motion is relative.

FlameFires: Usually, motion is taken relative to the earth.
