Answer:

A current-carrying conductor will experience a force when placed within a magnetic field. The principle of the electric motor is that it converts electrical energy into kinetic energy (mechanical energy) through the interaction of the two magnetic fields.

Explanation:

first lets look at the structure of the motor

ac motors

rotor this part moves while stator is fixed and the motor shaft is a part of rotor we have frame to protect motor from dust and water

now we know rotor is that part which moves while connecting electricity but why ?!

if you have a coil with N number of turns and you connect it by ac voltage source

the magnetic field will be produced according to this law Q=NI/R

this magnetic field will cause emf in rotor emf =(N(dQ/dt)) because of faradays law of electromagnetic then a force will be produced against that force on stator so the rotor will start moving .

that only happens in induction motor which depends on alternating voltage source because that voltage produced an alternating magnetic flux

but dc motors

you should connect stator by dc voltage source to produce a flux which appose the flux in stator because the flux produced by dc is constant so emf in stator =N(dQ/dT)

(dQ/dT)= zero so emf = 0

if you don’t connect stator by voltage source the motor won’t move just only while starting it will move for a while
