Explain need and advantages of nomenclature and scientific names of living organisms
Answers
A system through which organisms, including plants, animals, microorganisms and other living things are given distinct scientific names is called Nomenclature.
The advantages of nomenclature are:-
1) To organise and classify the organism which makes it easier to understand the characteristics of a specific organism.
2) The names are unique with each creature have only one scientific name hence, it helps to avoid confusion created by common names.
3) Scientific names are standardised and accepted universally.
4) The names of organisms are retained even if the species are shifted to another genera based on new knowledge.
5) It helps to understand the similarities and differences between different species belonging to the same genera and helps in establishing a relationship between the two.
