"Every eighth element has properties similar to that of first."

He compared this to the octaves found in musical notes. He named it law of octaves. Thus this law is known as Newlands' law of octaves.

Example:

In Newlands' law of octaves properties of lithium and sodium were found to be same. Also Sodium was the eighth element after Lithium.
