Newspapers conveyed news from one place to another creating pan- Indian identities:-

1) Religious debates and discussions were largely carried in newspapers so that a large proportion of public could participate

2) Reformers like Ram Mohun Roy commissioned 'Sambad Kaumudi' to express his ideas of reforms against idolatry, monotheism etc..

3)The ideas of reformers were countered by Hindu orthodoxy by commissioning 'Samachar Chandrika'

4) These newspapers were printed in vernacular languages , so that

the common people could understand.
