Newton's first law states that, if a body is at rest or moving at a constant speed in a straight line, it will remain at rest or keep moving in a straight line at constant speed unless it is acted upon by a force.

Newton's first law also applies when the rocket is gliding through space with no external forces on it, it will travel in a straight line at a constant speed.

The big Bang theory proposes that on acales larger than about a galaxy the entire contents of the universe are basically behaving inertially per the preconditions of the Newton's first law.
