NSSO stands for a national sample survey organization. It is the organization under the ministry of statistics of the government of India. Functions of NSSO: 1. It conducts socio-economic surveys on various subjects like employment, consumer expenditure, health, unemployment, and medical services, etc.

The NSSO was set up in 1950 to conduct large-scale sample surveys throughout India. The employees of the NSSO are from the Indian Statistical Service (appointed through the UPSC) and the Subordinate Statistical Service (appointed through the Staff Selection Commission).
