Amoeba takes food by forming a temporary finger projection called pseudopodia. The pseudopodia fuse above the food particles that make up the food vacuum. The digestive enzyme from the cytoplasm around enters the food vacuum and breaks the food into a small water-soluble molecule with a chemical reaction. Foods that are digested from vacuole foods spread throughout Amoeba cells and are absorbed in the cytoplasm. Some of the absorbed foods are used to gain energy through respiration and some are used for Amoeba cell growth. The unpacked portion of the food is transferred to the surface of the Amoeba cell and crushed (discarded) by the membrane of the cell membrane.
