Dear Student,

◆ Methane -

Methane is colourless, odourless, tasteless gas.

# Occurrence -

  • It is naturally found in sewers, landfills, septic tanks, etc
  • It is formed by decomposition of organic materials.

# Preparation -

In laboratory, methane is obtained by heating sodium acetate with soda lime. (CaO acts as catalyst here)

CH3COONa + NaOH + ∆ --> CH4 + Na2CO3

Thanks dear. Hope I was useful..
