this context is taken from the story ' The portrait of a lady  ' .  Here the author is talking about his grandmother. From the start he had seen his grandmother with countless wrinkles on her face and her hairlocks were silver due to her old age . Her appearence had not changed at all in the coming years. This  led the author to beleive that his grandmother had not aged at all , and hence could not have grown any older than she already was .
