Backdrops are edited in the Paint Editor. They are found in the backdrops tab in the Stage. New backdrops can be chosen from the library, painted, uploaded, or chosen as a surprise.

Explanation of one method to add a new background on the stage is as follows:
- A 'background' is the image that is shown on a Stage. From Scratch 2.0, Backgrounds are called BACKDROPS. They can be found in the 'backdrops library'.
- We can create, name, edit or delete a backdrop in the Paint Editor. We can choose a backdrop from the library, uploaded or painted.
- To add a backdrop, we can import it from the scratch library, or import a file that is supported (sprite) from our local computer.
- Else, if we want, we can also draw the backdrop using drawing tools from the Scratch itself
