In the cell nucleus of human beings, there are 46 chromosomes in total (i.e.) 23 pairs of chromosomes. First 22 pairs are called autosomes and they appear the same (homologoous) in both male and female.

The last 23rd pair is called allosome or the sex chromosome, which determines the sex of the individual.

In males, the 23rd pair has a X chromosome and a Y chromosome.

In females, the 23rd pair has two X chromosomes. Hence, females have perfect pair of sex chromosome. All the pairs of chromosomes are homologous in females.
