★ HALIDES:-
→ Except Beryllium halide all other halides are ionic in nature.
→ Beryllium halides are covalent in nature and soluble in organic solvents.
→ In the normal temperature or solid state they exhibit chain structure (polymer).
→ At vapour phase they form chloro bridged dimer.
→ At temperature of 1200K they form monomer.
→ Tendency to form halide hydrates decreases down the group.
→ For calcium, barium, strontium dehydration of hydrated chlorides, bromides, iodides can be achieved by heating.
→ Be and Mg undergo hydrolysis on heating.
