Majority of the flowering plants can

produce a hermaphrodite or bisexual flower

and their pollen grains are comes in contact

with the stigma of the same flower. The

continuous flow of self-pollination results in

inbreeding depression.




Therefore, the flowering plants provided

a many devices to encourage cross-pollination

and to discourage self-pollination.




The plants of the some species,

pollen grains released on stigma is not

synchronize ( anther and stigma opens at

same time) .




In some other species, the stigma and

stigma are placed at different positions so the

pollen grains does not comes in contact with

the stigma of the same flower.
