Answer:

1} Oxidation reaction: The chemical reaction in which a reactant combines with oxygen or loses hydrogen to form the product is called oxidation reaction.

Examples of oxidation reaction:

(1) When Carbon burns in air, it forms carbon dioxide. In this reaction carbon accepts oxygen, therefore, this is an oxidation reaction.

C + O2 ------> CO2

2} Reduction reaction: The chemical reaction in which a reactant gains hydrogen and loses oxygen to form the product is called the reduction reaction.

Examples of reduction reaction:

(1) When hydrogen gas is passes over black copper oxide a reddish coloured layer of copper is formed.

In this reaction an oxygen atom removed from CuO to form copper, hence, this is reduction.

CuO + H2 -----> Cu + H2O
