• Panchayats are the basic units of local administration.

• The system has three levels:

⠀⠀⠀1) Gram Panchayat (village level)

⠀⠀⠀2) Mandal Parishad / Block Samiti / ⠀⠀⠀Panchayat Samiti (block level)

⠀⠀⠀3) Zila Parishad (district level)

• Main functions of the Panchayat is Maintenance and construction of water resources, roads, drainage, School buildings and CPR (common property resources).
