It is an analytical method to separate out color chemicals from each other.
There are 2 phases of it:

stationary phase : a solid, or a liquid supported on a solid)

mobile phase: a liquid or a gas

The mobile phase flows through the stationary phase and carries the components of the mixture with it. Different components travel at different rates.

Answer :

Topic :

                          "Paper chromatography"

A set of laboratory techniques used for the seperation of mixtures (coloured Chemicals) is called "Chromatography".It works because some components of a mixture are more soluble than others.

In paper chromatography special paper is used to seperate the coloured components in a mixture.

Chromatography only works for soluble dyes, like in food and pen not in dye clothes.

The most soluble dyes move faster on the filter paper than less soluble dyes.

Activity :

Required Things :

  • A breaker.
  • A Medicine dropper.
  • A filter paper.
  • A Solution of dye or ink.

Procedure :

  • Put the filter paper on the breaker.
  • Put a drop of ink in the middle of the paper.

Observation :

Soon you will see different bands of colour on the filter paper. Each band show the presence of a differnet component of the Solutuion.
