parallax method is used
by astronomers to find the distance to nearest stars.

Explanation:

Same star is viewed from two places at time difference of 6 months. Earth travels around 300 million kilometers i n 6 months..We will see the position of star have shifted by parallax.
Now the angle is measured and we know the base of triangle as 300 million kilometers

Very large distance like distance between earth and moon which cannot be measured by directly by metre-scale or measuring tape. In such condition parallex method is used.
In this method, a planet Park is observed similtaneously from two distinct place A and B. The angle APB is measured, if AB= b and s=AP=BP is the distance of the planet from the surface of earth,
Angle APB= b/s.
