pesistence of vision is an optical illusion where multiple images bled into a single image in the human mind.
it is believed that it is the explanation for mtion perception in cinemas and animated films.

The image formed on retina of eye does not fade away instantaneously but its impression remain on the retina for about 1/16 of a second, even after the removal of the object. This continuence of the sensation of vision is called persistence of vision.
