When light of sufficient wavelength is incident on a metal surface, electrons are ejected. This is photoelectric effect.
Ejected electrons are called photoelectrons.
i) Stopping potential -
The smallest magnitude of the potential at anode plate which just stop the photocurrent is called stopping potential.
ii) Photo electric work function -
In a metal, there are many free electrons. These electrons are not free enough, to leave the metal surface. When they try to came out of metal, the metal attracts them.
A minimum energy equal to work function should be given to electron to bring it out. This minimum energy is called photoelectric work function.

Photoelectric Sensors with Measuring Function - A Distance Ahead
Highest precision and reliability when detecting objects!
The new generation of photoelectric sensors from Pepperl+Fuchs brings this objective much closer. The powerful sensor technology marks a breakthrough by combining standard sensors and the latest measuring methods to provide the highest levels of precision and reliability for object detection.
The distance information provided by the integrated measuring technologies offers many advantages. Measurements are recorded with high accuracy and evaluated immediately. This enables faults to be detected and eliminated. "Zero-defect production" is now tantalizingly close.
The photoelectric sensors are also extremely resistant to environmental influences and will master the challenges posed by your industrial application. Even in extremely challenging applications with stringent requirements, our intelligent sensors provide reliable evaluations - even when confronted with harsh ambient conditions and difficult object surfaces.
Realize your ideal application and gain a decisive advantage over the market!
