The emission of electrons from metal surface when light of suitable frequency strikes the surface is termed as photoelectric effect.

Example :- Photo cell

For photoelectric effect from a metal surface to be possible, a certain frequency of light is required known as threshold frequency.

Finally, the famous Eienstein's 0hotoelectric equation

K.E. of emitted electron = hv - W .

Where W = work function of metal surface.
