members of this phylum are commonly known as sponges . they are generally marine and mostly asymmetrical animals. these are primitive multicellular animals and have cellular transport or canal system.

water enters through minute pores( Ostia) in the body wall into a central cavity, spongocoel , from where it goes out through the osculum

Porifera is the first most phylum under kingdom animalia. The organisms of this phylum are generally called as sponges.

All the poriferans are aquatic which includes both marines and freshwater organisms.

The level of organization seen in the poriferans is cellular and the organisms are asymmetrical.

Cellular aggregation is the type of body plan seen in the poriferans and are acoelomates.
