Hey friend,
Physical properties of metals.
1. Metallic lustre ⇒ Metals have a shining surface in their pure state, This, property is knows as metallic lustre.
2. Hardness ⇒ Metals are generally hard except few.
3. Malleability ⇒ The property of a metal to be beaten into this sheets is called malleability.
4. Ductility ⇒ Metals can be drawn into this wires. This property is called Ductility.
5. Sonorous ⇒ Metals produce a sound on striking a hard surface. This sound is knows as sonorous and the property is known as sonority.
6. Good conductor of electricity and heat.
Chemical properties of metals.
1. Metals combine with oxygen to form metal oxides.
For example,
2cu + O2 ⇒ 2CuO
2. Metals react with water and produce a metal oxide and hydrogen gas.
For example,
Ca + 2H2O ⇒ Ca(OH)2 + H2
3. Metals react with acids to give a salt and hydrogen gas.
For example,
Zn + H2SO4 ⇒ ZnSO4 + H2
