Physical Properties of Metals

Metals are lustrous, malleable, ductile, good conductors of heat and electricity. Other properties include: State: Metals are solids at room temperature with the exception of mercury, which is liquid at room temperature (Gallium is liquid on hot days).

The physical properties of metals are as following:-

  1. Lusturous- They shine and can be polished.eg:- gold, silver
  2. Hardness- Most of the metals are hard.eg:- iron,lead
  3. Ductile- They can be drawn into wires.eg:- copper
  4. Malleability- They can be beaten into thin sheets without breaking.eg:- Aluminium
  5. Sonority- They produce aspecufuc soung when struck with a hard object.eg:-silver
  6. Tensile strength- They can bear a lot of strain.eg:- chromium
