The European countries were attracted by the spices such as pepper, cloves and cardamom produced in India. The fine qualties of cotton and silk produced in India had a big market in Europe. Therefore the European felt the need to discover a sea route to India so that it can trade goods with India for India was known as the ' Golden Bird'.
