Generally, one gene is responsible for one character of an individual. In some cases there occur multiple genes to control single trait and these are said to be polygenic genes and the trait is called as polygenic trait. Polygenic inheritance is the inheritance of triats controlled by multiple genes.
It involves each gene contributing little amount of the material so that their individual effects are not detected. The combined phenotypic effect of such poly genic genes is significant and cumulative. The effect is controlled by the cumulative effect of poly genes and also the environmental variance. Though the represents the tallness, the individual may be short due to malnutrition as and effect of the environment.
