Answer:

POSITION ISOMERISM:-

it \: is \: due \: to \: the \: difference \: \\ in \: the \: positions \: occupied \: by \: \\ the \: particular \: atom \: or \: group \\ in \: the \: same \: carbon \: chain.

EXAMPLES:-

propane-1-ol, propane-2-ol

But-1-ene,But-2-ene

FUNCTIONAL ISOMERISM:-

compounds \: having \: same \: \\ molecular \: formula \: but \: \\ different \: functional \: groups \\ in \: their \: molecules \: show \: \\ functional \: isomerism.

EXAMPLES:-

ethanol, Methoxymethane

propan-1-ol, Methoxymethane

Answer:

The phenomenon in which different compounds having the same functional groups at different positions on the parent chain is known as position isomerism.

For example,

But-2-ene [CH_3 -CH=CH-CH_3]

and but-1-ene (CH_2 = CH – CH_2 - CH_3] are position isomers of each other as they have the same molecular formula C_4 H_8 and the same carbon skeleton but the double bonds are located at different positions.
