pre-election alliances, which occur when two or more political parties agree not to field candidates against one another. Rather, the allied parties divide up the seats so as to field just one candidate from the alliance in each constituency.



Frenzied post-election behind-the-scenes negotiations to reach the simple majority mark are often messy and unethical, especially when last-minute deals are struck between former avowed enemies. This was in full display after last December's Delhi assembly elections when AAP, with a minority of seats, picked Congress as its partner to form a government which fell in 49 days
