Wind is caused by differences in the atmospheric pressure. When a difference in atmospheric pressureexists, air moves from the higher to the lower pressure area, resulting in windsof various speeds. On a rotating planet, air will also be deflected by the Coriolis effect, except exactly on the equator.

the wind blows because of differences in the air pressure from one location to another. Winds blows from area of high pressure towards area of low pressure if the high pressure areas very close to the low pressure area or if the pressure differences is very great the wind can blow very fast.
