For example lets take a primary source like " The last supper " by Leornado da vinci can tell us that people during the renaissance used light and shadow paintings or Chiaroscuro paintings to give volume effect and  3 dimensional effect to give a more realistic and bold looks on paintings . We still use light and shadows methods in cinemas and photographic methods for this reason.
