it was proposed by neils bohr.

it represents orbit number.

n=1,2,3,....or K,L,M.....

total number of electrons in an orbit=2n^2

total number of orbitals in orbit=n^2.

the principal quantum no. is the qiantum no. denoted by n and which indirectly described the size of the electron orbitals..
it is consist as n=1,2,3,4.......
but value never can be zero
