In this process, the inner living of small intestine contains longitudinal folds (villi) of thin epithelium which increases surface are of absorption. In each villus there is a complected network of blood capillaries and an unbranched lymph vessel called lacteal. Digested food diffused through the capillary network of each villus. All the blood vessels, which collect blood from alimentary canal join to form the hepatic portal vein which carries blood along the digested food to the liver. Fatty acids and glycerol from the chyle diffuse into the lymph running in lacteal which finally pours it into the blood.
