Q. Explain process of diffusion and active transport.

Ans :-

==>>Diffusion:- Diffusion is the net movement of molecules or atoms from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration as a result of random motion of the molecules or atoms.

Factor of diffusion:-

Temperature:- As temperature increases the average kinetic energy of particles increases.

Density :- Density of the Diffusing Substance. Density is defined as the amount of material that exists within a given volume.

Medium of Diffusion :- Diffusion also depends upon the medium in which it takes place. ...

Concentration Gradient. The concentration of a substance is defined as the number of solute molecules that can be found within a given volume. Volumes of high concentration gradient have a large difference in the concentration of molecules over a unit length. A large difference in concentration leads to a greater probability of molecular collisions over the region and therefore increases the rate of diffusion. Generally, the greater the concentration gradient, the greater the rate of diffusion.

Active Transport.:- Active transport is the movement of molecules across a membrane from a region of their lower concentration to a region of their higher concentration—in the direction against the concentration gradient or other obstructing factor (often a concentration gradient).

Active Transport is defined as a process that involves the movement of molecules from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration against a gradient or an obstacle with or without the use of external energy.

Factor of Active Transport:-

<> pH :- This is the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. Some enzymes function best in acidic, alkaline or neutral pH. If the pH of a chemical reaction is altered, enzyme activity will be slowed down or stopped. This will slow down or stop energy production. Consequently active transport will be slowed down or may stop.

<> Temperature:- Increase in temperature up to optimum levels increases rate of chemical reactions that release energy in the cell. Increase in energy increases the rate of active transport. Temperatures above optimum levels denature enzymes that speed up chemical reactions. This results in low energy production and therefore rate of active transport is slowed down. Low temperatures inactivate enzymes hence less energy is produced. This slows down active transport.
