pure substances are classified into two groups.....
1.elements. 2. compounds....
so...
compounds are those form of pure substances which are made up of more than 1 type of elements.....
and also the property of the compound is entirely different from the constituent elements..

for example....
WATER
H2O
Here in this example....
hydrogen and oxygen are 2 different Elements...
moreover.....
H2 has combustible property...
O2 allows /supports combustion...
but water extinguishes fire...
thus H2O shows property which is entirely different from that of H2 and O2...
