The Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR) and All-India Co-ordinated Pulses Improvement Project developed large number of high-yielding varieties (33) during VIII Plan. Some of them are resistant or tolerant to major diseases like Ascchyta blight, wilt, powdery mildew and sterility mosaic. This enabled cultivation of pulses in traditional and non-traditional areas with stability in productivity and production.
