In this type of pyramid the number of individual organism in various trophic level is shown.

These pyramids are mostly upright, because number of producers is maximum and Number of herbivores and carnivores decrease towards apex or at successive trophic levels, such as Grassland ecosysterm and aquatic ecosystem.

Pyramid of numbers is inverted in a tree's ecosystem. This is known as parasitic ecosystem as birds or herbivores which are dependent on the trees or producers & but on birds parasites or consumers are dependent. Therefore as the number of the organisms increases sequentially there will be increase in the number of trophic level.
