Hi dear,
# What does pyramids of ecosystem means?
★ Pyramids of ecosystem is meant by the representation of ecological parameters at different levels in ecosystem in the form of graph.
#What are these parameters?
★ These parameters are number, Biomass and Energy.
→ Firstly, pyramids were formed by *Charls Elton* .
Hence it is also called as Etonian pyramids.
Now, discussing about 3 types of Pyramids.
#01 --› Pyramids of number :
★ Such Pyramids are mostly upright due to the maximum number of producers and the number of herbivores and carnivores decreases on moving to successive trophic levels such as Grassland ecosystem and aquatic ecosystem.
★ But there exists a ecosystem system named as tree ecosystem where the pyramid of number is just opposite that is it is inverted. This is called as parasitic ecosystem because herbivores like birds depends on trees as they are producers and the parasites as consumers depends on the birds and hence with the increase in the trophic level, number of the organisms increases sequentially.
#02 --› Pyramids of Biomass
★Pyramids of Biomass represents amount of Biomass of each trophic level in ecosystem. And mostly here also Pyramids are upright. For example,,tree ecosystem , forest ecosystem.
★But the Biomass in aquatic ecosystem is inverted this is because in it the producers are microorganisms and the Biomass of these are very less.
#03 --› Pyramids of Energy
★ It represents the amount of energy flow to next trophic level. Here the energy Pyramids will always be upright or erect because of the gradual decrease in energy at each trophic levels.
★Follows 10℅ law of Lindeman, which states that 90℅ of the energy is losed or utilised in performing various activities and just 10℅ remains for the next trophic level.
★ And since tiger is the Top consumer hence it is said that it is ecologically weakest but physically strong.
Now, here I will write about its some of the limitations--›
★ Saprophytes do not have any place here.
★It does not accommodate a food web.
★ It does not even take into account that the species belongs to two or more trophic level.
Thank you
Hope it helps you!
