The Quit India Movement or the India August Movement, was a movement launched at the Bombay session of the All-India Congress Committee by Mahatma Gandhi on 8 August 1942, during World War II, demanding an end to British Rule of India.

In August 1942 Gandhiji launched the Quit India Movement(Bharath chhodo Andolan).A resolution was passed on 8 August 1942 in Bombay by All India Congress Committee, declaring it's demand for an immediate end of British rule. The congress decided to organise a mass struggle on non violent like on the widest possible scale. Gandhijis slogan of do or die inspires the nation .Every man ,women and child began demanding for free India.
