Ca(s) + 2H2O(l) ——> Ca(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)

Here,

Water is losing oxygen and is being reduced. Calcium is gaining oxygen and is being oxidized. In other words, one reactant gets oxidized while other gets reduced during reaction.
