northern plains of india are constituted by two river basin:--

1》The Indus river basin

2》The Ganga-brahmaputra basin

this region is drained by the Indus and its tributaries -jhelum,chenab,Beas,Ravi and sutlaj.river sutlaj also rises in the Himalayas.

The Ganga-brahmaputra basin

♐The Indus basin is separated from the Ganga basin by a low watershed. East of this watershed extends the vast plain of Ganga and its tributaries. the Yamuna, Ghaghra ,Gandak and kosi.
