RESPIRATION IN LEAVES;
The leaves of a plant have tiny pores called stomata the exchange of respiratory gases in the leaves takes place by the process of diffusion through stomata oxygen from air diffusers into a leaf through stomata and reaches all the cells where it is used in respiration
The carbon dioxide produced during the respiration diffuses out from the leaf into the air through the same stomata .
THE RESPIRATION IN LEAVES OCCURS DURING THE DAY TIME AS WELL AS AT NIGHT
BUT PHOTOSYNTHESIS OCCURS ONLY IN DAY TIME ;
=> The net exchange in the leaves of a plant is as follows ;
1) During daytime when photosynthesis occurs oxygen is produced the leaves used some of these oxygen for respiration and the rest of the oxygen diffuses out into the again during daytime carbon dioxide produced by respiration is all used up into photosynthesis by leaves .
Even more carbon dioxide is taken in from the air the net gas exchanges in leaves during the daytime is :
""Oxygen diffuses out carbon dioxide diffuses in ""
2) At night time when no photosynthesis occurs and hence no oxygen is produced oxygen from the air diffusers into leaves to carry out respiration and carbon dioxide produced by respiration diffuses out into a so the net gas exchanges in the leaves at night is :
""Oxygen diffusion in carbon dioxide diffusion out ""
